Topic: Wheelbuilders around the North East?

Ok boys and girls - I need a wheel built. Just the rim put on the Atlas as I have purchased the proper sized rim.

I know of the guy in Shiney Row - anyone else spring to mind?

Try me best - honest! big_smile

Is it for the Harley?

Seriously - whilst I've had good service from Mr Smith at Fencehouses, he's not cheap. Theres a guy has a stall at Scorton who I think is quite a bit cheaper - he's always inside, next to the side door at the southern corner of the building - always has some tyres, built up wheels and spokes along with repro headlamps, grips etc

PS. Did'nt this start as a carb rebuild?

Re: Wheelbuilders around the North East?

Dennis uses a bloke from Scotland, for reasons of an economical nature.......
He collects from Scorton and then returns there, smae chap Steve alludes to.

What is wrong with the altas rim?

Re: Wheelbuilders around the North East?

I've always used Smithy at Shiny Row and never had a problem, nice bloke too, always got the time of day to chat. There "might" be cheaper ones about, but if they are it will only be by a quid or two, and besides , John Smith is a local guy and if we don't use him we'll lose him.

Pete, If you would like me to hold your while you take your wheel to him, then give me a shout and I'll come with you and show you where he is.

Joe.

Re: Wheelbuilders around the North East?

Thanks to all for the advice. The problem with the Atlas rear wheel is that it is in excellent nick BUT it is the wrong width (WM2 instead of WM3) for the diameter of 18 inches. So to fit the correct tyre (4.00 x18) I need the new rim. It's appearing in the New Year so I may well take you up on your offer Joe as long as you warm your hands first......  wink
