Topic: AMC 650 building!

Ok so here are some pictures of my AMC twins for those who doubt their very existence.
The bike on the lift is going to be a Matchless 650 CS/CSR from 1961. All this bike needs in terms of bits is a speedo, modification of the tank (which is from an AMC single and then some paint on the tank.
There is also the majority of a 1962 AJS 650 CSR with matching numbers in the boxes strewn around the garage which needs more parts and work but is substantially there. The frame and tank for  the AJS is stored elsewhere.
The Matchless is not going to be truly standard but I'll have a go at getting the AJS there or there abouts.
Next stage is rebuilding the Matchless motor with new crankcases as the original cases had been re-welded (and hence distorted) after the motor 'put a leg out of bed ' many moons ago. This was discovered when the motor nipped up as the central web bolts were tightened. So a NOS pair of crankcases was founD. They had been on display at a major AMC shop so yesterday I stripped off the protective lacquer and the cases were in fine nick underneath. Over to you Steve!   smile

Re: AMC 650 building!

In answer to literally hundreds of questions on this subject, the paper around the rear wheel is not there to conceal the rear tyre. It's just that's a good place to store the new mudguards from the Matchless Owners Club.  wink

Re: AMC 650 building!

And here we go - here are the heads (AMC twins have two doncha know) vapour blasted and with new valves etc. Kinda purdy aren't they? Mind you, owners of BSA, Triumph and Norton twins will say a one piece head is better but.....

Very nice Pete.  wink

Jealous, me?  roll

After this length of time it needs to be run in by now - 2016 is nigh upon us.  big_smile

Re: AMC 650 building!

It needs to get on the road for sure - even if I have to push it!

I'm sure there's a joke regarding matchless twins and pushing in there somewhere.   big_smile  big_smile  big_smile

Courtesy of Colin.

Here is the steed of the baggers in all its glory, and the man himself has yet to see it in this finished condition!

Colin says he has been round the block on it and 'It gans like stink'.

Re: AMC 650 building!

Yes indeed. Thanks very much for all the time and effort you put into this Colin.
The eagle eyed amongst you will detect a slight omission in the carb department but I have been assured that they are optional for such fine AMC bikes  smile

Re: AMC 650 building!

Very nice  - but I thought you were doing the re-furb, Pete.  wink
If that goes as well as Colin's other AMC bikes then it will be too fast for you, Pete.  big_smile
Better let Andreas run it in for you.
Ideal for the 2016 Colonial run.  lol
